Having been saving for her first home since she was 11 years old, Madison Pickering is looking forward to moving into her completed home at Pebble Creek in the burgeoning Logan suburb of South Maclean, in time for Christmas.
It’s been quite an achievement for 19-year-old Madison who has been saving from an early age and managing her money wisely to ensure she can get herself on the property ladder.
Starting with the popular Dollarmites school banking product operated through the Commonwealth Bank, Madison began saving as much money as possible and knew from early on that she wanted to buy her own home as soon as she could.
“I’ve always been money conscious,” Madison said. “Any money I was given or earned, I never spent it. If I was thinking about buying something I realised I had to spend my own money didn’t want it anymore.”
Securing a job at McDonald’s as soon as she was old enough to apply, and taking as many shifts as she could, helped Madison on her way to her goal.
Whilst she was at school, Madison got a job part-time working as a media manager for a company in the food industry. She now works for that company fulltime, managing their social media, graphic design and videography.
Madison decided not to go to university immediately as she decided she would rather have a home.
“University comes with debt,” she said. “I would prefer to have a house than a degree at this point.”
In choosing to buy at Pebble Creek, Madison was taken by the master-planned community’s location and the opportunity for her to step into a growing residential estate near key infrastructure.
Madison will also be able to take advantage of the jewel in Pebble Creek’s crown – a multimillion-dollar park and activity hub in the heart of the community that will feature sport ovals, playgrounds, multi-use courts, a bicycle precinct, picnic areas, a dog off-leash park and more.
She currently lives with her mum at Boronia Heights and will appreciate the convenience of Pebble Creek as well as the location close to major stores.
Nestled within the growing inland corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Pebble Creek is bordered to the north by Flagstone Creek and features five distinct lot types that cater for first-home buyers, established families and downsizers across all budgets.
Madison is building her three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with Metricon Homes on her 280 sqm block.
“The Pebble Creek community is growing nicely,” she said. “There’s so many nice new houses and it has a very homely feel.
“I looked at a few estates and Pebble Creek ticked all the boxes for me, and Metricon have been great to deal with and I didn’t have to sacrifice anything in terms of feature inclusions to meet my budget.
“Matt Spencer and the team at the Pebble Creek sales office have provided great assistance throughout the whole process.”
She was able to take advantage of the First Home Owners’ Grant and will be applying for the HomeBuilder grant as well.
Her advice to other young people?
“Save your money,” Madison said. “Buy what you need, not what you want. I have still lived a fulfilling happy life, but just because I have money there doesn’t mean I have to spend it.”
